CONTROLLING THE GROWING PROCESS
Planted lots often get mixed together during transport, spacing and grading. Identification of individual plants is a critical management function in order to track and maintain control during the growing cycle. Individual unit tracking is achieved by placing a unique number/label onto each pot.
PLANT TRACKING
With specific data attributes and movements of individual plants being tracked, it becomes feasible to identify and select plants based on specific known characteristics.
DATA
The barcode provides information such as cultivar and planting date as well as additional data supplied by of the breeder. This data is referenced when procedures are carried out, such as automatic grading by a camera or chemical application. Grading data, applications, location (table number and the position of the table) and the employee who has completed the activities is saved into the database.t
ESSENTIAL MANAGE MENT DECISIONS
By analysing the saved data, improvements in productivity and routines can be achieved through a better understanding of a specific variety's performance through the growing cycle.
POSSIBILITIES AND RESULTS
- Forecasting availability by lot, variety and plant attributes
- Growing that is controlled by lot and variety
- Tracking location of specific plants within the greenhouse
- Ability to supply plants by variety and grade
• Historical data becomes an essential management aid for crop planning and management
